Thandian Hawawwan, 2021
Short film

I spend 42 days trailing three women in my family. Three sisters, now widowed. I follow, photograph, record, transcribe, measure, imprint, soak in their presence. The knowledge I seek contains the intimacy of our bodies, requires letting go of all other priorities and giving over to love, pleasure and care. It is a knowledge that celebrates what women are, what they know, and how they choose to present themselves, especially to each other. It is knowledge that is co-authored through our living, breathing actions and prizes what is directly felt and carried in the body, not merely canon or textual archive – where the women are noticeably absent.
